Beit Midrash in Motion: Acher vs. Elisha b. Abuya - Movement, Meditation, and a Tale of Otherness

The Talmud teaches that Rabbi Elisha ben Abuya was renamed Acher, “Other”, and excluded from mainstream Jewish society. However, the text leaves us wondering why Acher considered himself so harshly excluded and raises the question: What is “otherness” in Judaism? How do we identify “the other” and who receives special treatment? This workshop explores such questions through movement, meditation, and Jewish text study.
