Many of us have heard the famous teaching that a father has several obligations toward his son. Among them, he must find a spouse for his son and must teach him Torah, a trade, and even the skill of swimming. What else can Jewish texts teach us about the responsibilities and techniques of parenting? We will explore biblical and rabbinic texts as well as contemporary approaches to nurturing in order to determine what is useful for both parents and non-parents in this 21st century.
