The blue string affixed to the tzitztit (prayer fringes) and worn by the Kohen Gadol (high priest) serves as a reminder of all the mitzvot (commandments). The secret of the blue dye and the mysterious sea creature that produced it were lost over 1,300 years ago. The improbable events that led to the rediscovery and the revival of this mitzvah today weave together Torah and science, research and adventure, and fascinating personalities.

Baruch received his doctorate in physics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and specializes in telecommunications and computer security. He is co-founder of the Ptil Tekhelet Association, which has succeeded in restoring the ancient biblical blue dye, and has published The Rarest Blue, which details the history and science of tekhelet.
