Based on her memoir, Love in A World of Sorrow, Fanya Gottesfeld Heller shares her unique story of survival during the Holocaust with inner city teenagers in this film, Teenage Witness. They relate to the choices she was faced with in the midst of horror and chaos, and find inspiration and hope in her story of survival. Hidden beneath a chicken coop with her parents and brother for two and a half years, Fanya’s story depicts the extremes of fear, starvation and a remarkable tenacity of spirit.

Fanya Gottesfeld Heller

Fanya Gottesfeld Heller was born in a small Ukrainian village. She and her family hid from the Nazis for two years with the help of righteous gentiles. Her book, Love in a World of Sorrow, documents her wartime existence and complex relationships with her rescuers. A film version of her memoir, Teenage Witness: The Fanya Heller Story, has aired on PBS. Fanya serves on the boards of numerous institutions and charitable organizations.
