We Totally Accept You (Almost): Ritual and Leadership Roles in Synagogues

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Some members of the Jewish community face restrictions on the roles they can play in religious life. These include leadership roles on committees and boards, and honors during services, such as having an aliyah (reciting blessings over the Torah), leading prayers, or opening the ark. Why do these restrictions exist? We will look at the historic implications by examining halacha (Jewish law) and explore the ways in which some synagogues are including those in their communities who are not Jewish.
