Jewish Professional or Professional Jew? How Can We Have the Material and Spiritual?

The rabbis debated: To remain within the sanctity and safety of the Beit Midrash or to pursue opportunities that lay outside? Through a Talmudic tale we will discuss the tension in our own lives between the need for financial security and the search for spiritual sustenance; the need for parnasa (livelihood) and the desire to learn, and whether to be Jewish professionals or, perhaps, lay-leader-philanthropists?

Noga Brenner Samia

Noga was raised in New York and Netanya, served as a sergeant in the Israeli Defense Force, and attained an engineering degree and an MBA. She is the past Executive Director of KolDor. Currently, she is the Director of External Relations and Program Development at the BINA Center for Jewish Identity and Hebrew Culture, and a teacher at the Secular Yeshiva in Tel Aviv.
